Connect your Slack workspace
Slack is a shared organization connection. An Athean organization administrator sets it up once for the team.
- Open Org settings → Slack and select Connect Slack.
- Choose the correct Slack workspace and complete Slack's authorization flow. Follow your workspace's app approval process if approval is required.
- Return to Athean and check Connected to, the workspace name, and the connection date.
If you cannot access Org settings or need help choosing the right setup, contact your administrator or chat with us.
Choose the updates you want in Slack
Use your agents and automations to deliver useful updates, such as selected signal alerts, run summaries, or a team digest. The workspace connection enables delivery; the agent or automation defines what is sent and when.
- Personal updates: ask Athean or an agent to send a summary to you in Slack. Personal agent notifications go to the person using the chat or receiving the run.
- Team updates: a configured automation can post to a named channel or send a teammate a direct message. Agree on the destination and content with the person configuring it.
- Private channels: invite the Athean app to the channel before expecting it to post there.
For example, ask an agent to summarize its findings and notify you in Slack when the run finishes. If you want a recurring team digest or alerts from another platform, chat with us about the workflow.
Talk to Athean in Slack
When Slack chat is available for your organization, send the Athean app a direct message, open its assistant conversation, or mention it in an internal channel. Continue in the same thread to keep the context together.
Try questions such as “What changed on my accounts this week?”, “Prep me for my next meeting”, or “Summarize what my agents did in the last day.” You can also reply in the thread of a notification to ask about its findings.
Your Slack profile email must match an active Athean account in the connected organization. In channels, each conversation belongs to the person who started it; mention Athean in a new message to start your own. Channels shared with other organizations are not supported for these conversations.
Paste relevant content as text: Athean cannot open files or images attached in Slack. You can continue the work in Athean Chat when you need the full app.
Review requests and connection issues
If a Slack conversation needs approval for an action, Athean shows an Approval needed card with Approve and Reject. Read the requested action before choosing. Only the conversation's owner can decide that request; the card also links back to the conversation in Athean.
If notifications arrive but chat says it is not switched on, ask an organization administrator to reconnect Slack in Org settings → Slack. Older connections may need updated permissions. For a failed channel delivery, check that the destination is correct and that Athean has been invited to a private channel.
Disconnect stops Athean from sending messages through that workspace connection. Agents and automations that use it will need the connection restored. For persistent problems, contact support with the workspace name and the message or run that failed.
